Description
In Newport Oregon, right by the piers, sea lions gather on docks specifically made for them. They pack themselves on these docks like sardines to dryoff and sleep. They are quite the spectacle and are actually a visitors attraction. They have become such a big part of the town and community that a special group is raising money to build new docks for the seal lions. The old ones are in bad shape and some are partially submerged under water.
In this image, the sea lion is trying to get comfortable and snuggle in between several others on the dock. It is common to sea these animals all tangled, wedged and laying on top of one another. Many times one sea lion makes a slight movement to get comfortable and it starts a chain reaction and all where one or more lets out a loud bark of disapproval. Soon, several others join in the barking. Then, almost as fast as it started, it stops just after the last sea lion get comfortable again.
