Description
Located in the Islands in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park, Mesa Arch has become one of the more popular destinations in this part of the park. A short hike of a little over half a mile gets you to the edge of the canyon and a beautiful vista. If you really want a spectacular view of the arch and valley below, visit at sunrise. When the sun comes up over the La salle mountain range, the first rays light up the underneath of the arch and make it appear as it is glowing. If you do plan to come at sunrise, make sure you get there early. Mesa Arch is small and very popular with photographers. 10-15 people can quickly fill up the available space to capture the sunrise. That doesn't mean you will not be able to see the arch, you just won't have a front row seat and you may have to look through several rows of people and cameras.

I really like this image - a slightly less traditional perspective on an iconic location!

Thank you Michelle. I didn't have much of choice for my composition. I thought I got there early enough but there was already a large group in the small area. Then there were alot of clouds over the La Salle mountains so when the sun came up it was two high to give that beautiful sunburst over the horizon. It was still a magical moment. Thanks again.
